He played a handful of games at tail end of 2014/15 season.

Remember him starting in the 0-0 against QPR away and the win against Burnley at home that is for sure. He has played in the prem and held his own already.

You cant start writing off a 19 year old lad based on his performances in two US pre season games. Especially on the back of his season at Bradford where he was player of the year.

Kylay,

Is this the same Burke that was part of a west ham defence that earned 4 Prem clean sheets from 5 games?

Burke ain't near premier league standard. The Railhawk's forwards were blowing by him. Between them and the sounders, he was bloody awful.

Re: Striker options - Carroll injured
As I've said before, the strikers we have are good enough, they just get injured too often.

I believe that we just need more strength in depth and I think that both Martinez and Fletcher will prove better in that respect than Emineke and are certainly better in the medium / long term. Hopefully Fletcher will see quite a bit of action pre-season and then from the bench if he shows he has the required.

Obviously it looks as though Sakho and Valencia will both be off but I don't doubt that we will replace with better so I'm sure we will be stronger next season than last.

Very excited by Feghouli & Tore and I can't help but think that a big target man is the way to go with all our wingers and Payet banging in decent crosses... I would be happy with AC and Benteke (or Bony). That is our level (for now) and it will be enough to push us to the next level.

Re: Striker options - Carroll injured
I'm sure Liverpool's 32.5m asking price for Benteke will rapidly drop the last week of the window when IF it becomes clear nobody fancies it, once he's told he's not going to play I reckon the wages will drop a little too. Plus, when these clubs are more desperate to get rid of them they usually end up contributing wages or whatever

I love the way big clubs sign these big names and don't play them, does every other side outside 'the elite' a right favour.

The problem this time around for us is that we're going for people who aren't being shoved out, so the asking price and i'd imagine the wages are much more than we're used to

Was reading that Diego Costa is very keen to go back to Atletico Madrid and has put a transfer request in.
Obviously Gameiro and Bacca have their eyes on going there so who knows what that would mean.
Just think there will be a bit of a rush when a couple of these transfers go through and everyone else knows their options.

Very true i-ron.

We have to accept at the moment we're not first in the queue when clubs in the Champions league are still looking.

We'll at least get a good if not great striker before the end of the window. I just hope we get them at a price comparable to their talent level, whether we spend 15 million or 30 million on them, and that we don't take a huge punt on someone if we don;t need to. It's better to have the money in the bank and wait for the right player later on rather than spend for the sake of it.

Re: Striker options - Carroll injured
RichyP,

Burke and Oxford year older, can replace Tomkins, in terms of experience it might be weaker but I don't think it's that bad

Havard can play central defence and midfield

Antonio has swapped to right back and did well there last season

Feghouli & Tore really beef up the attack

Up front we've only lost Emenike, but we've got Fletcher and Martinez in there....although a bit long term, i've no problem with that because more to come should Valencia and Sakho leave.

I'm glad we're holding out for big money

I think we've had a good window so far, and we've got some youth to call up as well now.

i-Ron 1:36 Mon Jul 18
Re: Striker options - Carroll injured
It's not ideal but there's a huge merry go round of strikers out there... we are probably better off financially and players will want to wait around to see if they can go to a side better than us...so I'd imagine we'll get one or two towards the end of the window

Morata, Icardi, Lacazette, Lukaku, Benteke, Bacca, Benzema, Vardy, Milik...few names possibly leaving

Tottenham sign Janssen so I think they're happy now
Chelsea get Batshuayi, Man Utd get Zlatan

That's knocked a few clubs out of the race for the others

Arsenal still hunting, and the clubs abroad in the champions league still interested in strikers.

We'll just have to wait our turn when it becomes more appealing for a big name to join us. I'm sure some of these players are holding out for a better side and I wouldn't blame them.

Compared to last seasons squad i would say currently:

Defence is weaker
Midfield is stronger
Attack is weaker
